  • Careers Focus Day 12.10.16

    The 12th October we held our annual careers fair and it was our most successful yet. All years groups had the opportunity to meet over 30 different businesses and education provider’s to help students decide what they may want to do after school and as a career in their futures.

    Students all prepared for the day by filling in their own careers aspirations and areas of interest on a student record card. They also had to prepare questions to ask the visitors and had to reflect on the answer

  • TSLA's Open Evening

    Wednesday 5th October was the academy’s annual open evening, which saw the showcasing of the fantastic work that goes on in each and every department in the academy. From Harry Potter’s magic spells, treasure hunts, trampolining, cooking, a Parisian café to volcanoes and rockets, we had it all. Not to mention the live music and wok demonstration and food tasting going on in the canteen!   • TSLA photographers recognised nationally!

    Our Year 9 and 10 GCSE Photography students have entered the British Exploring Society #BEabug competition.
    They have done some brilliant work and their photographs are currently on the BES website. 
    Lucy Antrobus won second prize in the National Competition!
    Also, Marta Zurawska has been awarded third prize the competition.
    I'm sure you will agree that their photos are stunning! Well done!

The aim of the campaign is to dramatically increase the literacy of every person in the country and help develop a love of reading for pleasure.   • TSLA Mosaic Mentoring programme

    1st August 2016

     A group of year 9 students have been taking part in the Mosaic Mentoring programme where they have been developing their employability skills, and understanding of the world of work. The programme culminated with the students visiting the First Direct Arena to have a behind the scenes tour, and meet staff who could tell them about their roles and the different types of roles available at the arena.   • TSLA Student is a winner!

    Year 8  TSLA student Luqman has won a nationwide competition with Virgin Trains after designing a futuristic train.

    The 13-year-old student entered the competition in June, along with the rest of Year 7 and 8, which involved designing a train for the future with his design chosen as one of three winners. The design, which included a crazy golf pitch, gym and Jacuzzi all on board, helped bag him four first class return train tickets, courtesy of Virgin Trains.

    Princess Diana Volunteering Award

    Since the academy building opened its doors in September 2006, the library has always appointed student librarians to help staff the library at break, lunch and after school and to act as positive role models for the rest of the academy. This year, in recognition of her hard work and over 70 hours of time as a student librarian, one of our Year 9 students, was awarded the Princess Diana Volunteering Award.     Just before the end of the summer term, six  of our talented Year 9 students were invited to take part in the Hammersons Business Challenge at Leeds Kirkgate Market. The challenge, which is designed to introduce budding entrepreneurs to the real world of market trading, is an annual event where local school children have the opportunity to set up a stall in the historic Grade I listed building and trade to the public during the challenge 'trading day'.

    On Saturday 4th June, the annual Beeston Festival was held at Cross Flatts Park. The event, which is in its 22nd year, was a  fantastic opportunity for local residents to come together to enjoy great music and dance, sample the wonderful food prepared by local businesses and purchase goods from a vast array of sellers.     Every year, staff from the prestigious accountancy firm, Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC), go out into the community to volunteer on local projects, as part of their One Firm One Day initiative. This year, the academy was fortunate to be selected as one of the projects, and as such, on Friday 20th May, 14 volunteers trooped to the academy to help clear the overgrown garden.
