Kyle Anderson Memorial
2nd May 2013On the 30th April 2013 staff and students, both past and present were invited to attend a memorial evening in memory of Kyle Anderson, a pupil at South Leeds High School, who was tragically killed. Tuesday 30th April 2013 marks the 4th anniversary of Kyle’s passing. A bench with a plaque was bought from funds raised by Kyle’s fellow students.
A cherry tree was donated by Mitie and Aire Valley Grounds. The evening was celebrated with singers, dancers, food and drink etc.

Thackray Museum Trip
1st May 2013A group of thirteen Year 12 Health & Social Care students visited the Thackray Medical Museum as part of their social development and to gain an insight into the progress of the National Health Service and the improvements they have made since the 19th Century.

Peace Jam 2013
29th April 2013A group of students attended the yearly Peace Jam event at Graham College in Scarborough. They took part in lots of activities to explore the importance of peace and learnt how they can make a difference in their local community and at school by promoting peace. The students’ behaviour was outstanding and a great time was had by all.

Leeds Rhinos and Hunslet Hawks have recently teamed up with The South Leeds Academy as part of the school ambassador scheme ran by the Leeds Rhinos and forms part of an ongoing partnership between the clubs and the academy.
The South Leeds Academy has been given an amazing opportunity which has been embraced by students and staff at the academy and five of its feeder primary schools – Low Road, Windmill Primary, Sharp Lane Primary Park View Academy and Hunslet Carr.

Design Cometition with Hunslet Hawks
27th November 2012This autumn, the Hunslet Hawks in conjunction with The South Leeds Academy held a competition for the Academy’s students to design the Hawks home kit for 2013. The aim of this competition is to help drive awareness of the club in the school whilst allowing the pupils the opportunity to take part in a great innovative project which will see the winning design become the Hawks home kit in 2013.

The Sky Sports Project Comes to TSLA
23rd November 2012On Monday the 19th of November two sports stars visited the academy to work with some of our students as part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport Project. Paul Broadbent, who captained Sheffield Eagles to a challenge cup triumph and represented Great Britain rugby league and Rachel Mackenzie former World Thai-Boxing champion, came into school to pass on their expertise and knowledge.

The Skills Show Big Conversation
20th November 201227 Year 9 students were chosen to attend The Skills Show Big Conversation, at The NEC in Birmingham, organised by Business in the Community. The students had chance to have a one-to-one conversation with some of the busiest and most powerful people in the UK. The conversation was on the jobs of the future, apprenticeships and how to get the most out of work experience.
3 lucky students were chosen to sit at HRH Princess Anne's table and have the "Conversation" with her.

KS4 Art Exhibition
19th November 2012On Friday 9th November 2012, the Key Stage 4 Engage group exhibited some of their BTEC Art work at the Derek Fatchett Centre in Woodhouse.
The group displayed work on still life, art deco and pop art and the use of several different materials and techniques.
Many of the group have both shown a natural flair in this subject with some now aspiring to progress to Leeds Art College. This was the first of three art exhibitions the group will show by the end of the year.

Lord Woolmer Visits Students at TSLA
18th November 2012Lord Woolmer chose The South Leeds Academy 6th Form to visit on Friday 16th November 2012. He wanted to meet the future young voters and talk to them about his role in The House of Lords. He gave students an interesting insight into the history of The House of Lords and a working day there.
Students were keen to ask questions and due to the general interest the visit over ran! This first visit was so successful that the students have asked that Lord Woolmer comes back to work with a small group of students w

Thank You to South Leeds and Hunslet Cars
11th November 2012Not only do South Leeds and Hunslet Cars answer the telephone if you need to be somewhere, but they also answer the telephone if you need any help at The South Leeds Academy!
Twice this term they have willingly supported our requests for help. Firstly, we needed some work boots for 10 students working on courses off site, they provided boots for all the students, secondly, we asked for donations for raffle prices for the Christmas Party that we are having for the elderly at The Academy, and again we receive
