At The South Leeds Academy teaching and learning is at the heart of what we do. Our staff believe that every student has the entitlement to achieve and enjoy learning. We offer quality learning experiences in the classroom and beyond the academy day. Everyone in the Academy Family is a learner- young people and adults - to make sure that we are all lifelong learners in order to fulfil our own dreams and ambitions and to help others to do the same.
We are passionate about delivering engaging lessons which allow all learners to succeed. Student voice is key to our success as we believe it is important to listen to our students about their learning and adapt our approach to meet the needs of all students.
Students are organised into teaching groups according to their level and need. This ensures that every child is making progress at a rate that is appropriate to them, ensuring they receive the right support to fulfil their potential.
Students play a huge part in their own learning. We have many opportunities for students to become involved in the Academy Council which looks at the quality of learning, the classroom environment, and the way the Academy can help the local community. We encourage our students to take responsibility for improving the community in which they live.
Communication with parents/carers is one of the keystones for ensuring that students make excellent progress in their learning. Parents will receive a termly update on their child's academic progress in the Academy, and there are regular Parents' Evenings so that teachers and parents can talk about the progress the student is making in every subject. Parents are encouraged to contact the Academy at any point if they feel there are concerns with their child's learning that need to be addressed.
We firmly believe that the quality and organisation of learning in the Academy provides our students with the best possible start to their lives.
