Interact Club Blog July 2015

As the year draws to close, I would like to take this opportunity to fill you in on all the fundraising we have been up to these past few months. We have been very busy!

Red Nose Day

Friday 14th March

We launched a non-school uniform day in a bid to raise as much money as possible for comic relief. We sold red noses, held a bake sale, South Leeds bake off and a surprise flash mob from the staff that left the students stunned!

Tour De Yorkshire

Friday 1st May

We were so proud to be bringing the tour de Yorkshire to our local region and in honour of this we fundraised for the affiliated charity called ROAR – A children’s hospice charity. We held a bake sale and raised £42.57 in 15 minutes!

BTEC Music

April/May 2015

As The Interact Club hosts 3 musicians, we thought we may as well use our power of fundraising to raise some money for our Music department for new equipment. We held 4 bake sales and raised £80!

Stephen Sutton Memorial

Tuesday 5th May

In honour of the late great Stephen Sutton, we sold blue wristbands, held a bake sale and created a reflection area for students to write down their inspirational words. We raised £22.

St Luke’s Care Hospice

Wednesday 13th May

After being approached by an ex-student regarding the charity she works for, it was an instant decision to support her with fundraising for the local shop that had just opened up in our local town – Beeston. We raised £23 that will be put to great use!

Superhero’s Day

Friday 15th May

To support Radio Aire Cash for kids we held a superhero themed bake sale. The money raised will support underprivileged children living in the local areas of Leeds. We held £18.28.

Race for life

Monday 15th-19th June

For a full week, students ran a continuous 1-mile course for the duration of their PE lesson. Some students did 10 laps amounting to a lengthy 10 miles! Students supported this tremendously and some were even sponsored by friends and family for the run. The staff ran the race together on Thursday 18th whereby Mr Bredekis remains undefeated! The staff and students raised a whopping £661.53 for this great cause. A special mention to Chloe Hopper who single handily raised £286. Congratulations!

To conclude, in 6 months The Club have raised £1544.40 for many charities and we are extremely proud to be representing The South Leeds Academy in such a way.

We will see you after summer. Have fun!
